The flagship Warwickshire Institute for the Study of Diabetes, Endocrinology and Metabolism [WISDEM] and its Clinical & Translational Research Centre, has transformed the care of individuals with diabetes and other hormonal illnesses through exceptionally combined clinical care, education, underpinned by first class basic, clinical and translational research. WISDEM works across a number of Industry partners and also academic partners with a unique collaboration between Warwick Medical School and UHCW, and more recently Coventry University. These academic partnerships tackle diabetes, obesity and related metabolic conditions, such as fatty liver disease. It aims to help improve the care of individuals with diabetes and related metabolic/hormonal illnesses through, as aforementioned, excellence in clinical care, education and research for patient benefit. Research areas of focus include obesity, diabetes (including gestational diabetes), hypertension, dyslipidemias, PCOS, and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease.
