Patient and Public Involvement (PPI)

What is Patient and Public Involvement?

Getting involved in research doesn't just mean taking part in research as a participant.

Patient and public involvement in research (also known as PPI) is when patients and members of the public are actively involved in research projects and organisations; working alongside researchers to plan, manage and carry out research and report research findings.

By involving patients, carers and members of the public, researchers can benefit from their unique views, experiences and insights and ensure they are taken into account throughout the research study. By working with researchers, patients and the public can improve research and make a difference to healthcare in the future.
