Elective and Emergency Care services are essential for keeping the population healthy. The NHS responds to over 100 million urgent calls or visits every year, so the system needs to work effectively. Emergency trauma care involves immediate treatment following life-threatening accidents. Urgent trauma care involves any non-life-threatening injury needing urgent attention following accidents. These are dealt through elective surgery, delivered in a hospital setting. Both elective and emergency care services support patients to receive the right care, by the right person, as quickly as possible. Our research in these areas focuses on frailty and emergency care and rehabilitation to help recover from surgical interventions.
