Institute for Applied & Translational Technologies in Surgery (IATTS)

The Institute for Applied & Translational Technologies in Surgery (IATTS) is aiming to bring world leading surgical research to the patients we treat in the NHS.

Our focus is on emerging technologies and how they can be used in improving the outcomes of patients undergoing a wide range of surgical procedures. We hope to bring advances in surgical robotics to patients as well as developing novel approaches to emergency and elective surgery. Another core activity will be pre-clinical disease modeling and prediction of outcomes for surgical patients much earlier in the care pathway.

IATTS is also focused on supporting the development of the next generation of medical and non-medical clinical academics who are undertaking research in trauma simulation and post-injury rehabilitation. We hope to develop further first in man clinical trials over the coming years, as well as underpinning these trials with high quality pre-clinical research to ensure efficacy and safe delivery.

Strategic ambitions include:
- Improve care for patients undergoing surgical procedures

- Undertake multidisciplinary collaborative research

- Focus on Trauma & Emergency Care, Elective & Emergency Surgery; Robotics; Rehabilitation; Disease Modelling

- Grow own early career researchers

- Work closely with the commercial sector
